We all want something easy to carry, but many of us want more protection than what the most comfortable handgun can provide, at least when it comes to caliber and capacity. That’s where the high-cap shorties come in. You know, the double-stack pistols that have had the frame shortened to make them less likely to print through a shirt or jacket.
Springfield Armory announced the XD Mod.2, which is a revamped Springfield XD sub compact. The pistol features a new “grip zone” grip texture, improved fiber optic front sight, and the slide has been milled a little differently on the XD Mod.2 allowing for a better grip on the rear slide serrations than with the original XD.
About a decade ago, I was married to my Ruger P90 for EDC and chained to my Berretta 92FS for duty. A friend brought out his brand new XD in .45ACP. I assumed the XD would shoot like a GLOCK. The gun would run fine, but I wouldn’t shoot it well. I was grossly mistaken. I shot the XD more accurately than the 92 (I had that P90 down pat) or a GLOCK, with zero malfunctions. I’ve been crowing about the XD line ever since. Enter the Mod.2 9mm Sub-Compact . . .
